Sufang Zhang
Chinese Visiting Scholar
Sufang Zhang is Professor and Ph.D supervisor of School of Economics and Management, North China Electric Power University (NCEPU). She is also a Chinese Visiting Scholar at The Climate Policy Lab at the Fletcher School, Tufts University. She works as a researcher and consultant on issues pertaining to energy policy, carbon market, and low carbon transition. More specifically, her research focuses on renewable energy policy and financing in China. Her current research projects include China’s renewable energy investment in the Belt and Road Initiative countries, energy policy for enhancing the integrated development of new energy vehicle (NEV) and power system.
She has published more than 50 research papers, of which 34 are in peer reviewed international journals such as Energy Policy, Energy Research & Social Science, Journal of Cleaner Production, Applied Energy, among others. Recently, she has co-authored a book entitled China as a Global Clean Energy Champion: Lifting the Veil.
She has served as a Principal Investigator on projects funded by international organizations such as Asian Development Bank, Greenpeace, the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), GIZ as well as Chinese governmental foundations such as National Foundation for Philosophy and Social Sciences (China), Beijing Foundation for Philosophy and Social Sciences, as well projects funded by various energy-related enterprises.
She was a reviewer of REN21, Nature Energy, Energy Policy and other renowned academic journals. At the invitation of Asian Development Bank, Brunei National Energy Research Institute, Saudi Arabian Energy Research Center, ASEAN and East Asian Economic Research Institute, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung of Germany and Energy Research Institute of National University of Singapore, etc., she had made presentations on China’s renewable energy policy.
She has entered the Elesvier "China Highly Cited Scholars" list, and rankedamong Stanford University's top 2% scientists in the world (lifetime science impact ranking) for three consecutive years (2020-2022).
